As well as an outstanding collection of Big Cats such as; Cheetahs, Lions, Jaguars and Tigers, Paradise Wildlife Park is home to many other truly endangered species including Snow Leopards ( Uncia uncia ) and Pied Tamarins ( Saguinus bicolour bicolour ) who are happily rearing their young as part of the European Endangered species Programme (EEP). These breeding programmes keep an account of each species in question and make sure that a genetic variety as large as possible is bred ensuring the survival of the species. Keepers are on hand throughout the day to give you an overview of the animals and to answer any specific questions you may have. Please don't be afraid to ask, they enjoy talking about the animals they care for and if fact we usually have real trouble making them stop!
In our paddocks, our Brazilian Tapir (Tapirus terrestris) are also part of EEP and have just produced their first offspring a beautiful female calf born on 30th January 2007. Camels, Alpaca, Zebras, Wallabies, Mara, Capybara and Hog Deer all happily reside side by side and most of them enjoy being hand-fed by our visitors - just watch out for Sheba the Camel who is always keen to search out more than you bargained for!
The Wonders of the Rainforest Exhibition houses many types of endangered Tamarin, along with our Two Toed Sloth and the very strange Lesser Hairy Armadillo ( Chaetophractus vellerosus ). At The Angkor Reptile Temple you can come face to face with Snakes, Turtles, Hissing Cockroaches from Madagascar and even a Chinese Alligator ( Alligator sinensis ). Also from Madagascar we have Lemurs on the Park and with Meerkats from Southern Africa ; a truly global experience awaits you and your family to discover.
