Birds at
Paradise

Tawny Owl

This species is the UK’s only truly nocturnal owl. All other species will hunt at dawn and dusk or even during daylight hours at certain times of year.

Since its flight is silent, it is able to sneak up on its prey items without them realising. These are the only owls that make the “twit twoo” noise when courting, and in fact if you hear this call it is actually a pair of birds calling to each other rather than just one bird.

DID YOU KNOW? There are many superstitions surrounding owls. The hooting of an owl was often thought to be an omen of death.
