Chicken

The Chicken is a domesticated fowl, a domesticated form of the Red Jungle fowl.

As one of the most common and widespread domestic animals with a population, there are more chickens in the world than any other species of bird. Precise estimates of the global population are difficult, but it is likely to be fewer than 20 billion, a fifth of which live in China.

Chickens come in 3 domesticated sizes, large foul, standard and bantam. Here at Paradise we have Bantam sized and some large fowl can be taller than a 2 years old.

DID YOU KNOW? Hens make a ‘cluck-cluck’ sound, whilst cockerels have a ‘cock-a-doodle-doo’ call. Chickens cannot fly but can flap their wings enabling them to travel short distances off the ground.
