Paradise Wildlife Park calls on supporters to join
The 2.6 Challenge from Sunday 26th April 2020
The UK’s charities need your help.
The Covid-19 pandemic has had a catastrophic effect with the cancellation of thousands of events and the loss of billions in income through fundraising events.
Trustee and CEO of Paradise Wildlife Park, Lynn Whitnall will be doing her 2.6 Challenge by running 26 miles around the park.
Lynn raised her three sons, Aaron, Tyler and Cameron at Paradise Wildlife Park and has lived on site ever since. Imagine being able to grow up on a zoo! The boys often remark how incredible it was to have their childhood centred around wildlife and conservation while living on what is now considered one of the best small zoos in the UK.
In 2000 the family curated The Big Cat Sanctuary, which is now the sister site of Paradise Wildlife Park. The Sanctuary is home to fantastic big and small cats with a focus on conservation.
The Whitnall’s family live and breathe wildlife and what better way to boost morale and positivity during this unprecedented time than bring the London Marathon to the animals.
This is Lynn’s 17th consecutive marathon! Not only this but she has collectively raised over £200,000 for charities and good causes worldwide. This time Lynn will be raising money for the Zoological Society of Hertfordshire and The Big Cat Sanctuary so that the sites can continue to care for the animals. All the monies donated will go directly towards the upkeep of animals at Paradise Wildlife Park and The Big Cat sanctuary.
Lynn says: “I am excited to complete my 17th (unofficial) London Marathon running around my back garden, Paradise Wildlife Park (ZSH) this Sunday. Although it is not what I expected, I am still going to compete in the safest way possible and raise much needed funds for our beautiful animals both here at Paradise (ZSH) and at The Big Cat Sanctuary. I will also be taking part in the Official Virgin Money London Marathon on its new date of Sunday 4th October. A big thank-you to everyone who has supported us so far!”

Paradise Wildlife Park, like so many charities across the UK, has been impacted by COVID-19. The COVID-19 Virus will have a detrimental effect on the care of the animals and team members, so they are asking you to please consider donating to our Animal Support Fund. It roughly costs £3,000 a day just to continue the upkeep of the animals alone. The park turns to visitors, local communities and animal lovers for support now more than ever. All donations made to the Just Giving page will go directly towards the upkeep of our animal’s welfare.
Paradise Wildlife Park hopes that supporters will join the 2.6 Challenge to help Paradise Wildlife Park and the community by raising money from your own 2.6 challenge.
Taking up the 2.6 Challenge can be something as simple as walking or running 2.6 miles, 2.6 kms – or 26 press-ups, 26 minutes walking round the garden. it can be a sponsored activity, or a donation – £2.60 or £26 – whatever is affordable – it all adds up and will make a difference for the animals. Make sure you tag us in your social media so we can see your efforts! Tag us, nominate 2 friends to do their challenge and then donate £6 to ZSH – it’s that simple!
The campaign, The 2.6 Challenge, will launch on Sunday 26th April 2020 – what should have been the date of the 40th London Marathon – and will last for a week. The 2.6 Challenge is open to anyone of any age – the only requirement is that the activity must follow the Government guidelines on exercise and social distancing and remember to stay local.
